FCBC is an educational children’s theatre company that was established in 2001 under the direction of Roderick Lewis. Roderick Lewis was trained in theatre at the University of Dayton. He has performed professionally in numerous critically-acclaimed productions and has taught drama to elementary and high school students in Chicago for over a decade. FCBC’s casts, production teams, and crews consists of students who are trained in all aspects of theatre, including stage management, lights, and choreography. The shows deal with hot-button topics for youth and are presented in creative and innovative ways. Some of the plays FCBC has produced include:
  • It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye (a tragedy involving a teenager who is trying to abandon a lifestyle of gang involvement)
  • Youth Sunday (a musical about youth discovering their spirituality)
  • Boys to Men ( a drama exploring the reasons why African-American boys are struggling to reach their fullest potential)
  • Girls to Women (a motivational play designed to inspire young ladies who are dealing with self-esteem issues)
  • Expressions of MJ ( a musical tribute to Michael Jackson);
  • and the parent program to our submission, Expressions of Hip Hop.
Participation in Edutainment Project City-wide Ensemble:
The Edutainment Project and its partner FCBC Youth Drama offer a City-wide student performance ensemble for its student participants. Participation in the City-wide Student Performance Ensemble provides every interested student the chance to be involved in socially-conscious plays produced by The Edutainment Project and written and directed by FCBC Youth Drama. These plays are performed at various schools and twice per year the Student Ensemble will perform in large venues in front of thousands of their student peers. Ensemble members also will learn technical and production elements of theatre and be able to participate in the Summer Arts Camp and Saturday workshops during the school year.
